BAFS NOVA-CBG Aimlessly Riding for Miles

Picked up a new Freezing Saddles participant and went out aimlessly wandering in search of miles. Not as cold as yesterday or at least that's how it seemed to me. Now for my weekly sleaze rides this week to maintain my lead in BAFS.

BAFS NOVA-CBG Icy Modified Arlington Triangle

Slushy, icy, snowy, windy, and chilly out there today. We tried to do the Arlington Triangle but the mucky trail proved to be a bit too challenging so we diverted to local roads and did a modified version of the ride including riding through Fort Myer, which I've always wanted to do but never actually got around to doing. Average speed was laughably slow but I got in my 20 miles so I'm OK with it. Now what to do for tomorrow's ride...

BAFS NOVA-CBG Gran Fondo Almost Fail

It wasn't pretty but I was able to complete the Strava Gran Fondo 1 Challenge. It was cold to start and I had nothing. I dragged along at 11-12 mph and got dropped before we even crossed Walter Reed. But I was determined to make it. Had to turn back in Leesburg due to the snow and ice so I had to make up the extra mileage after we got back to Shirlington. Rode down to Gravelly Point, back through Crystal City and Arlandria, and then had to do a small loop through the neighborhood but I got 81.2 miles, just over what I needed. Now it's time to crash for the night.

BAFS NOVA-CBG Arboretum

Windy and cold but sunny day. So long as you were moving, you could stay relatively warm. Had a nice ride out, did a short loop, and then came back to Shirlington for some lunch. Another good day.

BAFS NOVA-CBG Ft Hunt and Sleazy Post-Lunch Ride Home

Had a nice little ride down to Ft Hunt as part of my weekly Freezing Saddles weekend rides. Had good energy on the way down there but really noticed that I hadn't eaten yet on the way back so I skipped the reverse triangle and went back to Shirlington for some yummy Guapo's food. Good choice!

BAFS NOVA-CBG Merry Band of Idiots Ride in the Rain

Had a lovely, messy, rainy ride through Alexandria. Called an audible and then just roamed through Del Ray, Carlyle, and Holmes Run and returned up Beauregard to Shirlington. Can't believe I found anyone silly enough to come out riding with me but glad I did. Really had fun and the after-ride at Samuel Beckett's was definitely guilt free.

Lentement mais Sûrement Freezing Saddles Best Buns Short and Kinda Sleazy

Got in a short ride so I could at least score a few points for Freezing Saddles. It was a bit sleazy but I couldn't bear to have just 2.5+ miles so I rode around the neighborhood a few times to at least double it. Now we'll see how well I do this week in the frigid temperatures

Lentement mais Sûrement Freezing Saddles Ride to Nowhere

Forced myself out once it got to be 30 degrees and it was surprisingly nice out there. Beautiful sunshine and only a little wind. The bike paths looked really crappy so I made this a road-only ride. The main roads were pretty good but the side roads were barely passable in many places. Took it easy and slow, fitting as it accurately reflects my Freezing Saddles team name. And when I got home and the odometer reading was 9+ miles, I rode up and down the block until I got my 10 miles. An acceptable ride for such a chilly day. Now to keep it up until March 19.

NOVA-CBG Hangover Ride

What a great way to start off the new year: a nice, chilly ride around Hains Point. It was a great day to just spin and stretch out the legs without caring about speed, cadence, or distance. Only have 4,974 miles to go this year to meet my goal.
