Recovery Ride to the Harbor Inn, the Oldest Bar in Ocean City

Randi, Bill, Chris, and I decided to do our "recovery ride" by doing a short ride to the Harbor Inn and drinking pony beers and playing pool. It was an enjoyable way to log a ride before leaving Ocean City.

NOVA-CBG Garypalooza/Belated Birthday Ride My Age (Plus Extra)/Gran Fondo

Got an early start to log some extra miles prior to doing the "Garypalooza" birthday ride. Day was overcast but never really rained on us and the temperatures were only in the 70s. This was also my first opportunity to do a belated "ride your age" birthday ride. I extended it out on the back end as well to get my June Gran Fondo. Not too much pain and I had some moments of greatness but couldn't keep up with the big dogs. Ah, I guess that's what happens when you hit your 50s. Sigh...

First Ride Back on Shiksa and Amira Test Ride with Stephanie

Met Stephanie on the W&OD and rode up to FreshBikes to test ride some Amiras. Rode Shiksa up and back and didn't have too much pain or discomfort riding her. We took the Amiras on the first half of the FreshBikes Tuesday Night Ride course and went down to the "scene of the crime" to get that out of the way. The Amiras were very nice, rode very much the way Ruby did. It's definitely on the list of possibilities to take Ruby's spot as the primary road bike. I still have to figure out all the accoutrements I want to have on the new bike to determine which one will meet all of those needs. Not a bad position to be in.

Baby Steps: First Post-Wreck Ride

I couldn't stand not getting out on my bike so I decided that today was the day to get back out there and see how I felt. Stephanie was kind enough to accompany me (and carry my bike out of and back into the house down and up all of those friggin' steps) on my baby step ride. I knew I wanted to ride to Shirlington and back at a minimum. I felt good enough that we stretched that out and rode up to FreshBikes and around Ballston/Virginia Square. My legs were spinning remarkably easy and my pain level was no more than it is just sitting around the house and, in fact, was sometimes less as I was able to stretch the shoulder out while riding. I certainly didn't set the world on fire but I got back in the saddle, had no abject fear or terror of riding in the street, and felt pretty good. I'm damn happy with that.
